Thursday, January 27, 2005 Im in Agra still! So my original plan to stay in Agra for one day has now extended to its fourth or fifth day. Im losing count. I dont know how many more days I will be staying here. I have just extended my airline ticket for two more days. Lols, yes just two days. If I could, I would extend it for another month. Already my parents have been so accomodating. I think I mentioned in some previous post that they intended me back by early January. I convinced them to let me return mid-January. Then I pleaded for 28th January and now for another two extra days till the 30th. Even just two days will make all the difference. Im in Agra for personal reasons I rather not go into. But I just wish time was not such a constraint. Its funny...because prior to travel you think that the biggest concern would be running out of money, losing your bag, getting diseases. Well yea they are important but so far everything has been going smoothly. The biggest problem is time! I never thought I would be staying in India for nearly 3 months. Its seriously nothing. I have spoke to other travellers and locals and they say even if given a year you would never be able to travel all the places.
So I had thought I would be going to Haridwar but at the moment the plan is up in the air. For the past few days I have been staying with my Indian friend, John. He has been bogged down with so many problems that it is making it hard for him to get away. I have just been chilling in Agra. I finished all the touristy sightseeing on the first day - Agra Fort and Taj Mahal. Really, the enjoyment from travelling doesnt come from seeing these places. Sure the Taj is amazing. But it is short-lived. The best parts of my time in Agra has been just hanging with friends, going to their friends and relatives houses. Where I am staying is a small place but it has a great terrace. I love just sitting on the terrace, basking in the sun and reading a book. If I look up, there is always kites flying in the sky. Its kite season and the locals love cutting kites (competing to bring each other kite down). Ive been on the motorbike a lot (not driving, course!). I have two friends here that seriously are a danger on the road. This is India and yet they will drive 80 km/hr on the roads. they are amazingly good though. On the roads here, there is like some understanding between trucks, buses, autos, rickshaws, motorcyles, cattle..everything! I mean if you watch how vehicles just swerve and pass each other marginally. its scary but its exciting. I shall write here soon! |
