oh my! I am fine I am fine! Im in Bangalore and not near the Coast. Sorry to worry you all. Thank you for all the concerned emails and comments. I cant believe at the extent of the devestation caused by the tsunami. I was away on the weekend with no internet connection and I heard about what happened on Sunday evening. My parents had tried to call me but in Hampi there wasnt any mobile reception! they were soo worried. They were insisting I fly to HK asap. I am so lucky. Thank God. I mean the past three weekends I was at all the places that have been affected - Pondicherry (I hear the epicenter of the quake was off the coast of Pondy), Mammallapuram and Chennai! all on the Coast. When my parents finally got through to me on Sunday evening, after I left Hampi, the toll was 1500. And now they are reporting the toll to be 70 000!! I am so shocked at the statistics. Especially Sri Lanka..and its become such a backpackers hotspot. Parikrma is sending three boxes of clothes, food, pots and pans tomorrow to a coastal town (I forgot the name) that has been badly hit. Ive been contemplating going to help out with the relief work on the coast whether its with distributing the food/clothes, on the telephone hotline or with the vaccine camps they are putting up. I mean I am IN India! So today I called up Red Cross. Im waiting for their call back. If there is something concrete I will bus tonight to Tamil Nadu state (approx 8 hours away depending which city/town I go to) and spend five days or so there. Ill definitely update here soon!
